Château Musar Tasting

Wednesday, May 16 2018 07:00PM - 10:00PM

Please join us for a special vertical tasting of wines from Château Musar on May 17th at the home of Rich Schlackman in San Francisco. Now in its 88th year, Musar is held in the same esteem as the top estates from Burgundy, Barolo, Bordeaux and Brunello. In spite of years of instability and civil war, they’ve continued to make fascinating, age worthy wines from the Bekka Valley in Lebanon using a unique blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan. Since its birth in 1930, Musar has farmed its vineyards organically and used natural methods, eschewing commercial yeast and other additives. They also make a fabulous white wine from local varietals, a single vineyard, Hochar Pere et Fils and a very rare rosé. I’m lucky enough to have tasted numerous older wines and I can tell you that they are not only delicious and intellectually interesting but also enlightening.

The proceeds from this tasting will benefit the women and children of Soufra, a documentary film ( that follows the incredible journey of Palestinian and Syrian women from the Burj El Barajneh refugee camp in Lebanon who started a catering business and food truck in Beirut. The film was premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and will be shown at Doclands in San Rafael on May 6th. The Soufra cookbook will be for sale at the tasting as well and those proceeds will benefit the building of the first ever Children’s Center in the camp. The center will provide a safe place for the children to learn, interact and play, allowing more women to work.  All ticket and cookbook sales are a tax-deductible donation via, the fiscal sponsor for the Soufra film and cookbook.

The highly acclaimed Reems in Oakland is catering the tasting.
