If you feel inspired by Mariam’s story, you can make a difference through a donation today!
Like other social entrepreneurs, Mariam is constantly working to help the women and children within the Burj al Barajneh refugee camp access the education and employment they need to live in dignity. By donating to the Soufra Fund, your donation will help Mariam not only cover some of the food-truck’s recurring costs, but also realize her dream of building a high-quality nursery school inside the camp. Construction on the day care centre has begun, but $30,000 USD is needed before the end of the year to complete the work!
Alfanar (meaning ‘beacon’ in Arabic) is the Arab region’s first venture philanthropy organization. Alfanar first invested in Mariam’s dream of setting up a catering unit in 2012, which has since grown into a food-truck, microloans for women and a nursery school for the camp. They work closely with social entrepreneurs like Mariam to ensure that their social ventures break even over time and that the generous gifts of donors like you are maximized.
Donations to Alfanar’s Soufra Fund will allow Mariam to reach sustainability with the Soufra food-truck and the nursery school. Mariam will in turn help Alfanar direct any additional funds raised to other deserving social entrepreneurs working to improve vulnerable communities like she has.
