The construction of the children's center is NEARLY COMPLETE!
We're still raising money for the teachers, school supplies and desks, but this is a milestone to celebrate.
Mariam is beyond excited about this phase of the project almost being done and is over the moon about the opportunities that this structure presents for kids that don't have access to education in the Burj el-Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon (where Soufra was filmed). The Children's Center will not only be a tremendous help to the women in the camp, providing a SAFE, happy and colorful place for their children to be, allowing them to persue work opportunities so they can help support their families, but it's also extremely important to create a space where the children of the camp can learn and grow.
If you want to help propel these kids into desks with books and pencils, you can buy the Soufra Cookbook that features age-old recipes from the Soufra Kitchen, written down for the first time!
Not only does this cookbook share some of the most treasured recipes that changed the lives of the Soufra women, but it also will give back to the families at the camp. The women of Soufra are full partners in the publication of this book. They will share equally in proceeds from its sales, which will contribute to the ongoing development of the camp’s Children’s Center and to building a school for the children in the camp.
