Celebrate International Women's Day with Soufra! An event brought to you by UNA Monterey Bay and the MIIS UN Association Club!

Followed by PANEL DISCUSSION, Q & A, and RECEPTION Soufra Cookbooks will be available for purchase to benefit the women who work with Mariam Shaar at the Burl El Barajneh refugee camp in Lebanon.


  • Ms. Adriana Melgoza is an immigrant from Mexico who grew up in Castroville and is proud to come from a family of
    farm workers. She has a bachelor’s degree in Human Communications with an emphasis in Practical Professional Ethics
    from California State University, Monterey Bay. Adriana currently works for the Watsonville Law Center as Clinic
    Manager and Central Coast Coordinator for the Northern California Rapid Immigration Response Network. She has
    worked with other community leaders to provide thousands of hours of volunteer service in legal aid and community
    organizing in the Central Coast to help create a social justice movement.


  • Ms. Anab Mohamed is a Sudanese-American who considers herself a cross-cultural ambassador who is very passionate
    about gender intersectional ties and human rights both in her country of origin and here in the United States. She is also
    a former representative in the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council in Monterey County. Currently, she is a graduate
    student of International Policy and Development, with a concentration in Human Rights, Gender and Identity at the
    Middlebury Institute of International Studies. In addition, she serves as a Program Assistant in the Center for Non-Profit
    Excellence and is involved in the planning and coordination of cultural activities held by the Sudanese community in


  • Ms. Mehr Khan Williams has engaged in development and human rights issues for over forty years, working with the
    United Nations, UNICEF, Non-Governmental Organizations, the media and academia to promote human rights and child
    development. She was United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights in
    Geneva from 2004 to 2006. Prior to this, Ms Khan Williams held the role of Regional Director in East Asia and the Pacific
    for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Bangkok for more than four years. She has written extensively on
    development and human rights issues for the international media. Most recently she was Chair of the Board of the
    International Service for Human Rights.
